  • At the 8th session of the UN council, permanent Representative of Algeria to the United Nations, Idriss El Jazairi announced that Algeria rejected 3 recommendations out of 20 within comprehensive periodic control.
  •
  • Idriss El Jazairi said the three rejected recommendations are related to religious freedom in Algeria and non-punishment policy which was stuck to the Charter for Peace and National Reconciliation. “Algeria will answer all possible questions from state members and non-governmental organisations.”
  • Speaking on the missing people issue, he said “it is a painful issue for the Algerian society.”
  • The Algerian diplomat mentioned that religious freedom is limited by a related law. “This law came to fill a legal vacuum following many complaints against evangelisation campaigns in the name of religious freedom.”
  •
  • UN’s Human Rights Council (HRC) approved Algeria’s human rights report during its 8th ordinary session in Geneva. The report was presented by Algerian Foreign Affairs Minister Mourad Medelsi in April 2008.
